And that, dear friends, is pretty special indeed.
We use software called Signup Genius to simplify the volunteer sign-up process. On this page, you will see links to some upcoming events (more are added as events are booked). Simply click on the link to an event you can help with and click “sign up”. It’s best if you create an account as you will only need to do that one time. Once you are registered, you simply "LOGIN" with your email/password going forward. Your information is secure and private.
It will take only a few moments for you to sign up to help but this makes a huge difference to Jenny and the crew to know who will be in to help, and when.
It may not always be clear that the catering services offered by the Catering Crew is an active ministry and social enterprise. By providing superb meal experiences for paying customers, we are able to raise funds that go directly into the other programs and space we provide. The catering service offered by First Community is something called a social enterprise (not unlike CMHA thrift store as an example) that generates revenue and then funnels those proceeds directly into the common good. You, our dedicated volunteers allow us to generate that income so that we can continue to share space as a community resource and work alongside others to make the world a better place. And that is really something quite wonderful.
So thank you, on behalf of all the folks we support here at First Community … thank you for your time, your energy and the love you put into the meals we serve. You are making a difference.

I really don’t want to use this software, but I want to help! What can I do?
Please contact Mary at her office 250-832-3860 or mary@firstcommunity.ca and she will be happy to make note of when you can help. In fact, she would be ecstatic even!!!!What if I sign up and am not able to come (eg: I am ill, something unexpected came up)?
If at all possible, please find a replacement. Signup Genius has the option to “swap” with someone else. Please contact Mary mary@firstcommunity.ca 250-832-3860 or 250-8336379 (cell) if you are not able to find a replacement to sign up.Should someone stay to lock up, after clean-up?
Where-ever possible we need a member of the catering team on-site to lock up as the last visitor leaves. In most cases this would be one of the clean up crew. There are some exceptions to this (ie a well known Green Space user etc). If in doubt, ask Mary.I don’t understand… how exactly are we contributing to the greater good when we volunteer? What exactly are we doing when we volunteer for catering?
Well, you already about the number of folks and organizations we are able to support day after day, year after year… good people who are doing good work.
